Urdaneta City, Pangasinan

Brief History

History has not been clear on how Urdaneta came about. There were many versions on where the name derived from. One theory says it was derived from the word " Organita " which means " little organ '. Some  speculations also says that it was named after Fr. Miguel de Urdaneta, Fr. Andres Urdaneta or Fr. Simon de Urdaneta. According to the National library states that it was after Fr. Miguel de Urdaneta. According to history  first dwellers are mostly Ilocanos occupying portions of the barrios of the neighboring towns like Villasi, Malasiqui, Asingan, Manaoag, Binalonan and others. The inhabitants gathered together and petitioned the Spanish Government to let them form a separate pueblo which was granted and formally founded on January 8, 1858. It was then until on January 10, 1998, when  the Philippine Congress execute R.A. 8480 known as " An Act Converting the municipality of Urdaneta Province of Pangasinan into a component City  to be known as the City of Urdaneta ". It was then successfully approved and proclaimed as city on March 21, 1998.
