How to handle Stress

There are two kinds of stress, this is according to some stress experts. The first one is " eustress "-  "Eu " is a greek word means " good ". From the word " good " itself meaning a good sort of stress that mobilizes us for action. It may be generated by a challenge within our powers,  like for instance,   an exciting assigned task in which we really like to work for that we know that we will receive affirmation.

The second kind is what we generally know whenever we heard of the word "stress ". Experts call this as "distress ", - "Dis " from a latin word " bad ", the kind of stress that creates or cause us a problem. Why do people experience stress, i am talking here on the bad stress or distress since this causes negative feelings that affect our body in general.

Almost all human being have had experienced or experiencing it almost everyday in life. Our lifestyle is actually the problem not the stress response itself which is a valuable response for human beings to have. Well what is stress response anyway? It is the body's way of preparing itself to deal physically with whatever the human being perceives as a threat. The heart, muscles, lungs, digestive system get ready for physical action. Thus, we in our everyday life are victims of this reaction inherent in our bodies, or in the long run we call ourselves victims of our own bodies or of our lifestyles. Whatever it is,  when stress response attacked, our physical energy mobilized and ready to fight, society wont let us take the actions though.

What then can we do about bad stress or distress? There are some ways to master stress where we can learn from there on how to handle it.  If not all of the following suggestions can help, atleast one will do.

1. Recognize when  it attacks - stress sometimes generally go undetected. Others blame the malfunctioning of the body like digestive system for example. Most of people are afraid to admit that stress is the cause of whatever physical difficulty they may be experiencing. They think that something mechanical has simply broken down in their bodies. By means of acknowledging it, we can know or do something about it to release.

2. Do some right kind of physical exercise - since stress response was intended to result in physical movement, physical exercise is one way of using stress energy. The kind though of exercise to take is important for some exercises may cause additional stress like competitive sports for these creates additional stress rather than releasing it. Have some exercise that does not  involve one's ego, such as screaming in a " private 'place, climbing the stairs hurriedly, or simply take a quick walk around your office building.

3. Be careful on choosing what you eat and drink - what we intake can contribute to the level of stress we feel. Avoid too much caffeine, refined sugar, salt and food with too much cholesterol. Smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages can contribute to stress also.

4. Relax - give ourselves permission to relax and find ways to do so. Spend  sometime for our hobbies or special interest  without feeling guilty.

5. Visit your Doctor - ask some medical assistance in dealing with physical causes or physical results for they knows more than anybody else.
